4 Good Reasons to Use a Dog Car Seat

What is the first thing you do when you get into your car?  Of course, you fasten your seat belt and typically instruct everyone in the vehicle to do the same.  I urge you to consider the following the next time you travel, even “just to the vet’s office” with your dog in your car.

It is a proven fact that after a car accident of any magnitude it is known that a traumatized dog will run into traffic out of confusion and trauma.  Being in a dog car seat securely fastened in your vehicle would protect your pet from further injury or stress as well as any other passers-by.

Many dogs after a car accident will try to protect their injured owners from rescue workers therefore hindering your care.  A dog safely restrained in his dog car seat will be securely fastened in his dog car seat while rescue workers attend to your needs.  Several dog car seats have even been crash tested for up to 30 lbs. traveling at 30 mph.  I think that speaks highly of how the pet industry is responding to the need for a dog or pet safety car seat.

Cages and crates, if not secured properly, will also become projectiles in a sudden stop even when they are properly secured, than can cause injury or even kill the dog inside when it is slammed around the crate.  A dog car seat offers a safety tether that attaches to your dog’s harness and then attaches to your dog car seatDog car seats also are fastened to your car using your vehicle’s seat belt component or a patented attachment system promising to safely and securely keep your dog in his dog car seat.

Even the tell tale sign of a happy pet owner, letting his dog hang his head out the window down the expressway has its drawbacks and potential serious problems.  A dog hanging his head out the window has been known to cause injury from the dust, debris and even ear infections from exposure to the wind.  Dog car seats provide the boost a dog would need to enjoy the view while traveling but would also keep them safely strapped in their dog car seat still able to enjoy the wind and view but without his head being exposed.

These days the pet industry has responded to the cries of pet owners for a safe way to travel with their pet by providing many options for restraining your pet while traveling around town or across country.  The pet industry now features foam based dog car seats that feature a safety tether that connects to your pet’s harness.  There are also crash tested safety harnesses that attach directly to your vehicles car seat belt receptor.  There are even several car seats that feature patent pending attachment mechanisms bringing the standard for safe pet travel higher and higher.  So the next time you buckle up make certain you precious pooch is also buckled into his dog car seat!
